Who it is for
Implants are not the first step. They are for men in whom the erectile tissue itself no longer responds — usually after long-standing diabetes, after prostate cancer surgery, in severe Peyronie's disease, or after priapism has damaged the tissue.
- No adequate response to PDE5 tablets at full dose
- Injection therapy ineffective or not acceptable long term
- Erectile dysfunction after radical prostatectomy or pelvic injury
- Severe vascular disease or long-standing diabetic neuropathy
- A man who wants a permanent, reliable solution rather than ongoing treatment
The two types
Both are entirely internal — nothing is visible, and neither is apparent when clothed.
- Malleable (semi-rigid): two bendable rods, simple to use, fewer mechanical parts, lower cost
- Inflatable three-piece: a pump in the scrotum fills cylinders from a reservoir, giving the most natural rigid and flaccid states — higher cost, more moving parts
What to expect
The procedure takes about an hour under anaesthesia, usually with an overnight stay. Swelling and discomfort settle over two to four weeks, and the device is used from around four to six weeks after a training session. Patient satisfaction with penile implants is among the highest of any procedure in urology.
Sensation and orgasm are unaffected because the implant replaces rigidity, not nerves. Length is that of your own erect penis, not more — any clinic promising enlargement through an implant is not being straight with you.
Penile Implant Surgery — common questions
Will anyone be able to tell I have an implant?
No. The device is entirely internal, and modern inflatable pumps sit discreetly within the scrotum.
Does the implant affect sensation or orgasm?
No. Sensation, orgasm and ejaculation depend on nerves that are not disturbed by the implant.
How long does a penile implant last?
Malleable implants often last well over a decade; inflatable devices commonly last ten to fifteen years before any mechanical revision is needed.
What does a penile implant cost in India?
It depends almost entirely on the device chosen — malleable implants cost considerably less than three-piece inflatable ones — plus hospital charges. A written estimate is given at consultation.
